Introduction

Easter Festival of Sacred Music 2015
29 march – 12 april 2015

Occidens / Ratio

Every year of the Easter Festival of Sacred Music has a unique motive. In the spirit of the Labyrinth by Iohannes Amos Comenius the listener has been invited to move (Pilgrimage, 2012), to come out (Exodus, 2013) and to explore other directions, places and themes (East – Beginning, 2014; West – Ratio, 2015) to eventually find a way from the labyrinth back to his own heart (Heart – Sanctuary, 2016).

In 2015 the festival program will accentuate the theme of west not only in terms of cardinal point, but also rationality and certain expansivity. The arc between centuries will span over the medieval program, in which early French chorus will meet choral chants from manuscript of Queen Elizabeth Richeza, to contemporary sacred works and the final concert at the Brno Cathedral, where masterpieces by Anton Bruckner will be performed including his Mass No. 3 in F minor.

Not only within the unique festival project, meditative Dark hours at the end of Holy Week, the new concert organ at the Jesuit Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary will be presented for the first time in 2015. One of today’s greatest organists, Christian Schmitt, will aslo play the instrument. We will not miss the final concert at Petrov either, performed by the Brno Philharmonic under the baton of the principal conductor Aleksandar Marković.
